Barry Ferguson says Northern Ireland captain Steven Davis will bring a much-needed sense of calm to the Rangers dressing room.
As Gers chiefs hunt for a new manager after axing Michael Beale, the Cullybackey man took charge of his first training session on Tuesday.
The new interim Rangers manager’s team are focused on Thursday’s Europa League encounter with Aris Limassol and Sunday’s Scottish Premiership trip to St Mirren.
Rangers failed to reach the Champions League this term under Beale and sit third in the league, seven points behind leaders Celtic.
Saturday’s loss at home to Aberdeen was the Ibrox side’s third Scottish Premiership defeat of the campaign and came after a heavy Champions League play-off loss to PSV Eindhoven.
Davis will be assisted by former Rangers players Alex Rae and Steven Smith as he aims to steady the Ibrox ship.
Signed by Walter Smith in 2008 and then by Steven Gerrard in 2019, the midfielder has won 10 major honours as a Rangers player and is the most capped British men’s player with 140 Northern Ireland appearances. Unable to influence matters on the pitch as he recovers from a serious knee injury late last year, Davis is now making his voice heard in the dressing room and training pitch.
His old Gers team-mate Ferguson expects the former Southampton and Aston Villa ace to make a positive impact.
