Reece James is pushing towards getting back to the pitch for Chelsea after over two months out with injury. The club captain hasn't played since going off after half an hour during the 2-0 loss at Everton on December 10.
It was the second major fitness problem for the full-back this season after he had already missed all but one of the games between August and November as well. After two years of consistent setbacks following knee and hamstring troubles, James continues to make good progress after having surgery.
The decision was made late last year to put James under the knife to try and remedy his issues, and now he is building up ahead of getting back in action. Whilst his teammates prepared for the Carabao Cup final last week he took time away to work in Qatar capital Doha, he is now back at the Cobham training base.
Returning to individual training on the grass, the 24-year-old has now taken to social media once more to update fans on his current state. «All these setbacks I took would break you, the comeback is coming,» he wrote on Thursday night.
James also posted to his story with a video of him running on a treadmill, strapped up and monitored by the rehabilitation technology. «Countless hrs [hours] in the lab [lab coat and timer emoji]» he added.
football.london understands that James has been recovering well from his latest setback, though the club are reticent to put a time frame on his recovery. The initial thought was that he would be out for at least three months post-surgery which takes him to mid-March.
