An animal rescue centre made a desperate plea to pet owners as they announced a big change amid growing vet bills.
Jackson's Animal Rescue in Wirral, an RSPCA-approved wildlife centre which helps hedgehogs and other small animals such as cats, posted a plea to cat owners on social media amid what they described as "difficult" times. The rescue centre said they have never been so "inundated" with requests for help, with their waiting list creeping up to almost a year long.
They added this was difficult to see as they were "constantly" seeing people selling kittens on Facebook and continuing to breed their cats - which is "contributing to the never ending cycle". They added that while this continues the centre is "drowning under the weight of vet bills" and their workload.

A statement on the animal rescue's social media page said: "We have been thinking so hard about what to do, and we have been given the most incredible opportunity to help this issue, raise funds, to get more cats adopted, and to spread the word about our work. Cat cuddling at Jackson’s Place was a huge success, the cats had an absolute ball and we know they looked forward to every weekend.
"What we also loved was the stories and the reasons you guys came to see the cats. Many people came for their own mental health reasons, or because family members are allergic and they can’t adopt.
"We got many cats adopted, and it was very successful in spreading the word about adopt, don’t shop. So, we are very soon going to be opening our Rescue Cat Cafe."
