Roy Keane brutally quizzes Gary Neville on Salford City managers

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane brutally quizzed Gary Neville about the hire-and-fire managerial policy at Salford City - just weeks after the League Two struggles sacked Neil Wood.

Since Neville and other members of Manchester United's class of 1992 acquired the Ammies back in 2014, the Football League side have sacked five different managers. In December, Wood became the latest managerial casualty after less than 18 months in the role at the Peninsula Stadium.

In his years as a pundit for Sky Sports, though, the former Manchester United right-back has often been vocal about his unease at Premier League clubs who employ short-termism, which led his former Old Trafford team-mate, Keane, to question the managerial strategy he operates at Salford City.

"Who brought the managers in at Salford?" Keane asked Neville on the Stick to Football podcast in a discussion about a manager's influence at club level. "The managers [appointments] were me, Karen (Baird, who left in May after 10 years as chairman] and Chris (Casper, sporting director)," replied Neville.

Keane fired back, saying: "So if you're on about managers getting players right or wrong, do you think you've brought managers in and gone, 'What was I thinking?'"

Neville answered: "When I look at managers that we've brought in, I think that while some of them may not've been successful. Richie (Wellens) obviously we sacked but he went on to win a league (with Leyton Orient last season)."
