Slow motion footage of Jeremy Doku's high tackle on Alexis Mac Allister has emerged online, with Liverpool fans fuming at the outcome.
It came after the Belgian winger avoided conceding a late penalty from a chest-high challenge on Alexis Mac Allister, as VAR deemed his tackle was 'played in a reasonable position'.
Eight minutes into added time, the tackle sparked protests from the Reds who wanted their second penalty of the game. Pundits were also wary of whether the City winger would end up in trouble.
However, after a VAR check, it was ruled that the tackle wasn't enough to overrule the referee's on-field decision.
Online, the slow-motion video appears to show that the ball came off Mac Allister first, before Doku caught the Liverpool man.
'You can literally see the ball ricochet off of Mac Allister's chest, it stops spinning and the only thing Doku catches is his Mac Allister.' one user wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
'Didn't even get the ball.' another wrote.
'How quickly VAR passed a check is so so telling. Stuart Atwell didn't want to embarrass Oliver' a third added.
'Hilarious watching people say 'hE tOuChEd tHe bAlL fiRsT' as if players are allowed to put their studs into someone's chest' posted another.
'In the other box, Man City get a penalty and Liverpool get a red' a final user penned.
