Lewis Koumas scored a brace as Liverpool Under-21s came from behind to beat Stoke City 3-1 on Sunday.
The Welshman cancelled out Will Smith’s opener with a well-taken effort, before Amara Nallo’s close-range finish put the young Reds ahead shortly after half-time. Koumas then wrapped up the victory when running onto Jayden Danns’ through-ball to cap off a dominant performance.
The young Reds started well and were unfortunate not to take an early lead as Danns closed down goalkeeper Blondy Nna Noukeu. Blocking his attempted clearance, Kaide Gordon managed to win the ball in the air, flicking it on to Bobby Clark. However, the shot-stopper made amends to deny the midfielder at the near post.
James McConnell went close moments later from the corner as it was taken short and played back to the midfielder on the edge of the box. However, his shot across goal was deflected just wide.

Stoke took the lead with their first chance of note as Smith cut inside from the left before beating Fabian Mrozek at his near post.
Falling behind didn’t knock the young Reds as they continued to create chances and threaten the Stoke goal. McConnell and Gordon both found themselves denied by Noukeu, while Clark air-kicked at the far post under pressure after a deflected cross left the goalkeeper in no man’s land.
Gordon would go close again with a 25-yard free-kick midway through the half, beating Noukeu with a bending effort only to see it curl inches wide of the post. Moments later, the goalkeeper would get down low to deny Koumas from the edge of the box.
