Pirate-themed restaurant Smugglers Cove is closing this weekend to make way for a sister site.
The restaurant opened on the Albert Dock in 2013 serving classic items such as burgers, fish and their famous hanging kebabs. Smugglers Cove holds the Guinness World Record for the most varieties of Rum commercially available with 151 rums on the menu, an accomplishment achieved back in 2015.
This weekend, its parent company, The New World Trading Company, will transform Smugger's Cove into another one of its sites, The Botanist. The food and cocktail spot has locations all over the country and acts as the restaurant seen in Channel 4's First Dates series.

This will be Liverpool's second Botanist venue after The New World Trading Company rebranded Liverpool ONE's former Club House restaurant last month. The New World Trading Company attempted to sell its Smugglers Cove and The Florist sites last year but the deals fell through due to complications with potential buyers.
The Liverpool ECHO contacted The New World Trading Company to understand the decision behind The Club House and Smugglers Cove takeovers. A spokesperson said: "Although we’ve enjoyed great success with The Club House and Smugglers Cove, we have an immensely popular proposition with our flagship brand, The Botanist, and want to make this easily available to our lovely customers in Liverpool. The two renewed bars and restaurants promise a vibrant yet relaxed atmosphere ideal for date night, family get-togethers, after-work drinks, laid-back evenings with friends and celebrating special occasions."
