Supercomputer delivers new Arsenal Premier League title stat after Aston Villa defeat
Arsenal's hopes of lifting the Premier League title have taken a major blow after the 2-0 home defeat against Aston Villa.
The Gunners couldn't take advantage of Liverpool's slip-up against Crystal Palace as former manager Unai Emery collected all three points in north London. Leon Bailey and Ollie Watkins scored three minutes apart late in the second half to inflict the Gunners' first defeat of 2024 and boost their chances of securing Champions League football.
Liverpool meanwhile, were stunned by Eberechi Eze, who scored the winner at Anfield. As a result, Jurgen Klopp's side remain level on points with Arsenal, who have a better goal difference.
Prior to this weekend's result, a supercomputer had predicted City to land a fourth consecutive league title. Not much has changed in that regard following the two defeats, with City's chances boosted significantly. They have seen an increase of 29.5 per cent, giving them a 70.1 per cent chance to lift the title.
Pep Guardiola's side came away 5-1 winners against Luton Town at the Etihad Stadium. Daiki Hashioka scored an own goal in the opening minutes which was later followed by second half goals from Mateo Kovacic, Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Josko Gvardiol while Ross Barkley scored a consolation goal for the visitors.
As for Arsenal and Liverpool, their chances now sit at 18.3 per cent and 11.7 per cent respectively. The Gunners saw a drop of 12 per cent and Liverpool a 17.4 per cent drop, according to the Opta supercomputer.
