UEFA have made a major rule change ahead of the 2024 European Championship in Germany, which could impact players from both Everton and Liverpool.
In Euro 2020, teams were allowed to select 26-man squads for the tournament, after it was increased from 23 following the COVID-19 pandemic three years ago. This rule was then carried over into the 2022 Qatar World Cup, with the aim of also easing the impact on players due to the tournament being held in the middle of the domestic season.
However, as per Article 48 of UEFA's regulations state, the squad number is set to return to its previous amount of 23 for Euro 2024, with England boss Gareth Southgate and other national team managers now facing tough decisions as they looks to streamline their squads in the coming months.

It is a move which could particularly impact the likes of Everton duo Ben Godfrey and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, as well as Liverpool stars Trent Alexander-Arnold, Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones, as their hopes of breaking into the squad take a blow with spaces even more limited following the change.
Speaking on the possibility of receiving a senior England call-up in the future, Elliott outlined how it would be a 'dream come true' to represent the Three Lions at a major tournament. "For me it's just about focusing on Liverpool now," Elliott told Sky Sports. "If it comes I'll be the happiest kid in the world."
