With the Copa América coming up next year, we take a look at all the information on where and when the opening game will be held.
The 2024 Copa América is right around the corner; with the new year closing in, preparations are already underway to make sure the 48th edition of the tournament, the second ever to be held in the USA, is the best it can be.
Argentina, with Lionel Scaloni at the helm, are the defending champions. CONMEBOL, the governing body of South American football, confirmed that the opening match of the tournament will take place on Thursday June 20 and will be played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. The kick-off time is not yet confirmed.
The venue for the tournament opener is the home of both the Atlanta Falcons (NFL) and Atlanta United (MLS) and has a capacity of up to 71,000. Opened in 2017, the ground had the honour of holding both the 2018 MLS All-Star game as well as the 2019 Super Bowl.
Dan Corso, President, Atlanta Sports Council said that “hosting the Opening Match of this prestigious tournament is an incredible achievement by everyone involved and our region’s soccer profile has once again been elevated to the highest level with this announcement.
