Kylian Mbappe is putting a major roadblock on his own move to Real Madrid being announced - and it's all thanks to his Champions League exploits.
The French striker is set to leave PSG this summer at the end of his contract - and Spanish giants Real have long been linked with him. It was suggested that he had already put pen to paper on a move earlier this week. Despite those claims, no official announcement has come from either Madrid or Paris.
It has now been revealed why both clubs so far have remained tight-lipped. According to the BBC, Mbappe’s move will only be confirmed once it is impossible for PSG and Real to draw each other in the Champions League.
PSG already have one foot in the quarter-finals after beating Real Sociedad 2-0 in the first-leg of their last 16 meeting at the Parc des Princes. Mbappe opened the scoring in that game, and he is likely to remain key to his side’s hopes of progressing further in the competition.
Elsewhere, Real Madrid take on German side RB Leipzig in the last-16. They edged past the Bundesliga outfit 1-0 in Germany last time out - with ex-Man City star Brahim Diaz netting the winning goal in the first leg.
Amid talk over Mbappe, both PSG boss Luis Enrique and Real tactician Carlo Ancelotti have remained quiet. Asked for an update, the former replied: "No. I can't say anything."
"I am going to try to bring this topic to an end. I don't have any comments to make," Enrique added. "The parties involved haven't yet said anything publicly, Kylian Mbappe hasn't said anything publicly. When both parties speak, I will give my opinion."
