Why Malo Gusto is absent from Chelsea squad to face Sheffield United
Malo Gusto has not been included in Chelsea's matchday squad to face Sheffield United in Premier League action.
The France international was an injury doubt to face Manchester United earlier in the week, however he started and played 75 minutes in the chaotic 4-3 win. Despite the Blues winning, it was a difficult evening for Gusto as Alejandro Garnacho netted a brace with the defender also picking up a yellow card for a foul on the Argentina international.
Mauricio Pochettino's decision to take Gusto off appeared tactical however that may not have been the case. While there was only a few days for him to recover, Pochettino has chosen to take him out of the starting XI and also not even include him in the matchday squad.
football.london understands he is being rested by Pochettino for the clash against Sheffield United. The Blues have a number of games in quick succession on the horizon with an FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City arriving later this month.
Instead, Trevoh Chalobah looks set to play at right-back with Thiago Silva back in the starting XI for the first time in over a month. Noni Madueke, following his impact off the bench on Thursday evening, has also been rewarded with a start at the expense of Mykhailo Mudryk.
Regardless of Pochettino's decision, Gusto missing the clash at Bramall Lane could have still taken place with a suspension nightmare being avoided. During the chaos of the winning goal, Moises Caicedo, who had been subbed off, was booked for entering the pitch with Gusto also doing the same, however he was not shown a booking.
