Xabi Alonso has refused to be drawn on speculation he could become Liverpool's next manager - with Bayern Munich having made him their preferred choice to replace Thomas Tuchel.
Alonso is the strong favourite to succeed Jurgen Klopp in the Anfield dugout with the Reds boss having last month announced his intention to stand down at the end of the season after almost nine years in charge.
The ex-Liverpool midfielder is enjoying an outstanding campaign in charge of Bayer Leverkusen, who are unbeaten in all competitions and stand eight points clear at the top of the Bundesliga as well as progressing to the semi-finals of the German Cup and the last 16 of the Europa League.

The Reds aren't the only former club of Alonso now courting the Spaniard with reports in Germany this week stating he is wanted by Bayern, who have announced they will part ways with Tuchel in the summer.
The 44-year-old, though, could yet stay at Leverkusen and was instead concentrating on his current club when speaking on Thursday afternoon ahead of their Bundesliga clash at home to Mainz on Friday evening.
“Bayern, Liverpool? I have nothing new to say," said Alonso. "Right now I'm Bayer Leverkusen coach and that's certain. Regarding the future, I have nothing new to say.
"Have I received a call from Bayern? That’s only hypothetical. Again, I have nothing new to say."
