Alfie Devine seals Plymouth Argyle loan move after Tottenham exercise Port Vale recall

Alfie Devine has joined Championship side Plymouth Argyle on loan for the rest of the 2023/24 campaign. The attacking midfielder's move to Home Park comes after Tottenham had recalled him from his loan spell at Port Vale on Wednesday morning.

Joining the Valiants on loan at the end of August, Devine made an instant impact in Staffordshire with an assist and stoppage-time penalty in a 2-1 win away at Oxford United in only his second league appearance for the club. Getting regular minutes under his belt to aid his development in senior football, the 19-year-old played a major role in the League One side reaching the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup for the first time in their history after his long-distance winner in a 1-0 win away at Mansfield Town in the fourth round.

A firm favourite at Port Vale, Devine contributed with three goals and four assists before Tottenham elected to exercise the option in their agreement with Vale to recall the England Under-20 international. As a result of his recall, Devine will now have the opportunity to test himself at a higher level after sealing a move to Championship outfit Plymouth.

Devine's move to the south coast comes after fellow Tottenham youngster Ashley Phillips made the move to Home Park last week. The summer signing from Blackburn Rovers made his debut in last Saturday's draw away at Huddersfield Town and came away with the man of the match award.

Devine is no stranger to new Plymouth boss Ian Foster after the 47-year-old's previous work in the England coaching set-up. Foster's last role with the Three Lions was as boss of England Under-20s, with Devine part of his squad for the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Argentina last summer.
