A delegation of politicians, including Shadow Secretary of State Hilary Benn, visit the Coleraine Showgrounds
Shadow Secretary for Northern Ireland Hilary Benn has thrown his support behind Coleraine’s redevelopment project at the Showgrounds after a visit to the ground on Monday.
The trip coincided with a group of cross-party representatives indicating their backing for the project that will enhance the venue and improve the facilities not just for the senior team but the community.
The club have already pumped £1.2million into the project but have outlined their need for more funding in order to complete the entire project, which would see a new synthetic training pitch built next to the main playing surface.
As well as that, new changing facilities would be built which would allow members of the community to use it, as well as the Coleraine senior and underage teams.
On his trip to the Showgrounds, Benn was “briefed on the club's efforts to secure equitable funding allocation, emphasizing the tangible benefits of The Showgrounds redevelopment in revitalizing the club, fostering economic regeneration, and combating antisocial behaviour”, according to the club’s statement.
"Despite funding uncertainties, the club has drafted a strategic plan focusing on modernizing facilities and catalysing positive economic and social impacts in Coleraine and the wider region,” said Coleraine chairman Colin McKendry.
