Brennan Johnson's fine run of form in a Tottenham shirt continued on Tuesday evening as he netted in the team's 1-1 draw with West Ham. After a tough start to life in north London following his summer switch from Nottingham Forest, the Wales international has really started to make his mark for Ange Postecoglou's side in 2024.
Introduced at the start of the second half against Luton Town last Saturday with the Lilywhites trailing 1-0, Johnson helped turn the game on its head by creating both goals as Spurs picked up three vital points in their top-four quest. Rewarded for his excellent display against the Hatters with a starting spot in the London derby clash against West Ham, it only took the 22-year-old five minutes to open the scoring at the London Stadium.
Having seen Timo Werner pick the ball up on the left flank, Johnson, who was on the opposite side, raced behind Hammers left-back Emerson Palmieri to move in front of his man and tap the ball home. It was a great goal from a Spurs perspective and one that highlighted Johnson's outstanding movement to get on the end of such an inviting ball.
The goal also demonstrated the good understanding that Johnson and Werner are starting to build up at Tottenham. The pair recently combined as the January loan signing netted his first goal for Spurs in last month's 3-1 home win over Crystal Palace following some outstanding work from his teammate.
Werner would have had another Tottenham goal to his name if it wasn't for Issa Kabore's own goal in the win over Luton Town. Again, Johnson got into such a good position down the right flank and fired a ball across goal which the defender, under pressure from Werner, converted into his own net.
