It came as no surprise to see Pape Matar Sarr have a big say on Tottenham's late win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday. Looking set for a point with the score at 1-1 heading into six minutes of stoppage time, Ange Postecoglou's men won it right at the death with Brennan Johnson converting at the back post.
Despite making way in the 80th minute, the 21-year-old was still involved in the celebrations as he sprinted down the touchline along with unused substitute Radu Dragusin to join the jubilant Tottenham players who had mobbed the goalscorer. Making his return to Premier League action one week earlier at Everton after a month away representing Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations, Sarr was always going to come back into the starting XI at home to Brighton.
Missing his energy and tactical ability during his absence with Tottenham's midfield just not clicking, the Lilywhites looked better for having the ex-Metz man in the side as he buzzed about and gave the visitors a headache with his movement and box-to-box style. Come the hour mark, Sarr got Spurs back on level terms as he raced through a gaping hole in the Brighton backline and Dejan Kulusevski played him into the area with a sublime pass.
Looking to square the ball to Richarlison for a simple finish, Lewis Dunk instead cut out the pass only for it to ricochet off the post and back into the midfielder's path. Sarr then made no mistake as he found the back of the net and ran off to celebrate with the fans, duly picking up a yellow card for jumping into the crowd.
Maybe not a player known for his goalscoring ability, Sarr has now contributed three for the season in the Premier League, including one in his previous home start against Bournemouth on New Year's Eve.
