Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham brace for huge windfall after £400m announcement

Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea could be in line to receive a multi-million-pound windfall after UEFA announced improved financial terms for teams competing in the Champions League next season.

Earlier this week, it was confirmed that the governing body of the European game has pledged to increase the prize pool from €2bn to roughly €2.46bn ahead of the 2024/25 season, which will see the competition expanded from 32 to 36 teams. That is an overall increase of £400m.

The revamped Champions League format will see clubs who qualify for the group stages of the competition play a minimum of eight games, instead of playing fixtures against eight different sides rather than the four-team round-robin formation that currently exists.

Arsenal are currently the only London side on track to qualify for next season's Champions League competition with both Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea positioned outside of the Premier League's top four after 23 league games. However, UEFA has also pledged to allocate €4.4bn of revenue across all of its men's competitions next season — including the Europa League and Europa Conference League.
