Arsenal are in the market for a new striker but Mikel Arteta's ability to sign a new forward may be limited due to Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations. Borja Mayoral is the latest forward to be linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium with the Getafe striker impressing in Spain.
Mayoral has scored 14 goals in 22 appearances across all competitions so far this season. The former Real Madrid star has been central to helping the La Liga outfit challenge for a European qualification spot this term after Getafe finished 15th last season.
It has been reported by The Sun that Arsenal have tabled an offer of £22million to sign Mayoral this month. However, the La Liga club are said to have rejected the Gunners’ opening bid as they value the forward in the region of £39million (€45million).
The report adds that Arsenal have been monitoring Mayoral since November as Arteta looks for a new striker to help solve the goalscoring issues facing the north London outfit. The Sun's report has now been dismissed after it has been revealed that Mayoral has a release clause valued cheaper than Arsenal's rumoured bid.
According to Relevo reporter Sergio Santos, Mayoral has a €20million (£17.4million) release clause in his current contract with Getafe. This means that the Gunners could sign the 26-year-old striker for a cheaper fee than what is being reported.
