The latest on the futures of Cesare Casadei, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Hakim Ziyech and Romelu Lukaku after Chelsea confirmed their squad number list for the upcoming season
Just a few days before the start of the new Premier League season, Chelsea finally confirmed their shirt numbers for the upcoming campaign.
New signings Axel Disasi (No.2), Nicolas Jackson (No.15), Lesley Ugochukwu (No.16), Christopher Nkunku (No.18), Andrey Santos (No.20), Malo Gusto (No.27) and Robert Sanchez (No.31) were all handed a number by Chelsea – signalling, potentially, that all seven of them will be involved with the first-team in some way in the upcoming campaign. However, there were a few notable omissions from the updated number list.
Firstly, Cesare Casadei has not been handed a squad number for the upcoming season. The Italian midfielder featured heavily over pre-season for Chelsea, with Mauricio Pochettino using the 20-year-old in a variety of different roles.
However, Chelsea plan on loaning Casadei out for the upcoming season, football.london understands. In an ideal world, the Blues – who rate the Italian highly – would like to see him move to a fellow Premier League side. That, however, may not be the best solution for him to get consistent minutes.
Instead, Leicester City, who were relegated to the Championship last season, have shown a keen interest in the Italy Under-20s international. Chelsea will be hoping over the coming days that they can make significant progress in finding Casadei's next temporary destination as they look to continue monitoring his development.
