Cristian Romero has fired a Tottenham message ahead of his return from a three-game suspension against West Ham on Thursday. In the first half of the 4-1 defeat to Chelsea in early November, Romero was shown a straight red card for a strong challenge on Enzo Fernandez that resulted in the Blues also being awarded a penalty.
Moments after his dismissal, centre-back partner Micky van de Ven hobbled off with a hamstring injury which meant Ange Postecoglou had to contend without his two first-choice options. After deploying Eric Dier alongside Ben Davies against Wolves, Postecoglou opted to use Emerson Royal alongside the Wales international.
Following three straight league defeats, there were understandable concerns about the two full-backs lining up against Manchester City star Erling Haaland. However, the Norway international did not manage a shot on target in the clash with Spurs as Dejan Kulusevski scored a late header to snatch a point at Etihad Stadium.
A first-half blitz from Pep Guardiola's side saw Tottenham lucky to still be in the game at the interval with the introduction of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg allowing Spurs to wrestle control back. With Yves Bissouma struggling for form and Bryan Gil taken off at half time, the Denmark international could be handed a start against West Ham with Romero as another in line to return.
With that in mind, Romero has sent a message on Instagram that shows a video of himself and Alejo Veliz playing head table tennis with the caption reading in Spanish: «Que mananas estas teniendo hijo mio». Exactly what the message translates to is unclear but the word «morning» and «boy» are definitely used which seems to reference the time of day and Veliz.
