Eric Dier knew Harry Kane would score against Arsenal - and has message for Tottenham fans

Eric Dier was not at all taken aback by Harry Kane's goal against Arsenal, as the Bayern Munich defender and former Tottenham star had full confidence in Kane's ability to score upon his return to north London.

In the Champions League quarter-final first leg on Tuesday evening, Spurs' top scorer of all time secured his 15th career goal against the Gunners with a penalty in the first half.

The penalty, given for William Saliba 's foul on Leroy Sane, complemented Serge Gnabry's earlier strike, putting Bayern in the lead after Bukayo Saka 's initial goal, before Leandro Trossard brought the match to an even 2-2.

Dier, who alongside England captain Kane became the focus of boos at the Emirates Stadium, expressed no surprise at witnessing his long-standing colleague notch up his 39th goal in what has been an exceptional season.

«The stats would suggest he would (score),» Dier remarked. «You expect him to get a goal pretty much anywhere to be honest. It was a great penalty and Leroy did unbelievably to get it.

»We're excited for the second leg. We're going to do everything to go through."

When asked about the constant jeers from the passionate home supporters, owing to his Spurs history, Dier responded: «We were both expecting it, so it's nice. It's part of football. It's something to enjoy.»
