Everton confirmed on Friday their decision to appeal the Premier League's 10-point deduction.
An independent commission handed down the punishment last month after the club were found guilty of breaking financial rules. A club statement said: "Everton Football Club has today lodged with the Chair of the Premier League’s Judicial Panel its appeal of the decision by a Premier League Commission to impose a 10-point deduction on the Club. An Appeal Board will now be appointed to hear the case."
As far as on-pitch matters are concerned, it is Newcastle United up next for the Blues on Thursday evening and will result in Anthony Gordon returning to Goodison Park.
Elsewhere, Sean Dyche's side were yesterday drawn away to Crystal Palace in the third round of the FA Cup. This tie will be played during the first weekend in January.
They are also being linked with a move for Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips.
