The return to Premier League action is almost upon us with the final international break of the season reaching its conclusion.
Chelsea host Burnley at the weekend with the Blues looking to continue their recent strong form. While there have been loud cries for Mauricio Pochettino to lose his job, his side have quietly gone about their business – and have done so quite impressively.
Since losing to Wolverhampton Wanderers at the start of last month, in what was undoubtedly one of the lowest points of Pochettino's reign at Chelsea thus far, the Blues have played eight matches in all competitions. From those previous eight games, Chelsea have lost just once and that was after extra-time in the Carabao Cup final loss to Liverpool.
In that time, they have picked up five victories, with three of them coming at Stamford Bridge and two away from home. They also picked up an impressive point away at champions Manchester City.
Either way, it is more than safe to say that Chelsea have not assured their supporters that they are a team that is on the up. For Pochettino, his debut season with the club was all about making progress.
Making a cup final was definitely a sign of that, but the manner in which they lost to a highly depleted and inexperienced Liverpool team left a sour taste in mouths. But they are one game away from another domestic cup final, albeit against the might of Man City next month.
