Pep Guardiola admitted he does not understand the rule around timewasting after Andre Onana upset Manchester City fans in the derby.
City fans were whistling from the opening minutes as the United keeper took his time over every goalkick with the visitors defending their early lead. Whatever pressure the Blues looked to put on their rivals, the end of each of their 17 shots on goal in the first half was the ball under Onana's control.
Despite fans objecting to the length of time Onana would take to restart the game and Guardiola and the players making that point to the officials, referee Andy Madley never saw fit to book the United stopper over the course of the game. There were three minutes added on at the end of the first half and eight at the end of the season.

Guardiola did not know what had gone on with Onana and if there was an injury, but did hint at frustration that teams were not often punished for deliberately wasting time. While City were a side that were always looking to play, they need the referee to help their cause in certain situations.
"I don't know if he was injured or had niggles. It's up to the referee to do this type of decision," he said of Onana. "There is always a rule. We can define many things as a team and we always want to play, to play, to play. There are teams that waste time, waste time, waste time.
"And we give them extra time - six, seven, eight minutes - when they didn't want to play and after it is against us. I still don't understand the rule but it is a rule and we have to accept it."
