I left Arsenal after £3m transfer and won a trophy within two weeks

Arsenal winger Marquinhos enjoyed a successful start to his loan spell at Fluminense after the Brazilian club claimed the Recopa Sudamerica title on Thursday evening.

The 20-year-old left the Gunners on loan in February to return to his home country, having spent the last two seasons at Nantes and Norwich City.

Marquinhos has so far featured twice for his new club, who began their preparation for the new league season (which starts in April) by winning a trophy of significant value in Brazil.

Indeed, Fluminense faced off with LDU Quito of Ecuador over two legs in the Recopa Sudamerica — a competition which pits the winners of the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamerica against each other and could be described as the equivalent of the UEFA Super Cup.

Beaten 1-0 in the first leg, Fluminense turned the tie on its head by winning 2-1 on home soil to claim this piece of silverware. This was the first time the Brazilian club have claimed this honour, on the back of their maiden Libertadores triumph back in November.

Marquinhos was not in the squad for the second-leg showdown against LDU Quito, though took toInstagram to share images celebrating the team's success.

Arsenal completed a deal to sign Marquinhos back in 2022, paying Sao Paulo a fee believed to be in the region of £3million.
