After a successful loan spell at Linares and shining in the pre-season with Barcelona's first team, including a goal against Real Madrid, midfielder Fermin Lopez is now one of Xavi Hernandez's players. He is willing to continue to play at this level of importance and even to go out on loan again if required.
In an interview with 'EFE', the player confesses that what he is experiencing is "unimaginable" because, when he went out on loan last season, in which he finished with 12 goals and four assists, he thought that "he was not going to come back" and, even less, "to do it in the first team of Barca".
"It's a dream that I'm fulfilling. I'm very happy for the opportunities that the coach is giving me and I have to keep working for next year and those that remain", he said.
Fermin has already made 15 official appearances - 11 in La Liga and 4 in the Champions League - with the first team in which he has scored two goals, one against Mallorca and the other in the first leg against Shakhtar Donetsk, where he was recognised as the best player of the match.
The Andalusian player renewed last August with Barcelona until June 2027 with a termination clause of 400 million euros.
"From the club, they gave me the confidence that I was going to be important. You never know what decisions they might make in the future because, at Barca, you always have to be at the highest level," admitted the 20-year-old.
Asked about his future, Lopez assured that his intention is to "stay at Barcelona", but does not close the door to another loan spell: "If I have to go out on loan, I already have the experience and I hope it works out just as well and I can return."
