Everton will make the short trip to Wigan on Saturday as they face their second pre-season fixture following a win against Swiss side Stade Nyonnais.
That fixture was part of the Toffees' training camp in the Alps, with Sean Dyche overseeing his first full summer as manager having been able to prevent relegation during the 2022/23 season. He will be hoping to avoid such concerns this season - with plenty of hard work planned to get his squad into shape.
This schedule will continue on Saturday, with 2013 FA Cup winners playing host to Everton in a friendly. The recently relegated Latics are preparing for a season in League One, with the club having endured a tough Championship term due to a number of financial problems.
They will, however, provide a strong level of competition for Everton, with the League One side likely to be ahead of the Blues in terms of their preparation for the 2023-24 campaign.
Following this match, Dyche will face further fixtures against more local opposition. A young team will also be in action on Saturday against Tranmere Rovers, before the full squad will travel to face Bolton Wanderers (July 25) and Stoke City (July 29). They will then round-off pre-season by hosting Sporting Lisbon at Goodison Park on August 5, a week before the Premier League kicks off.
