Ivan Toney’s joke about his future could hint at his ambitions in the summer, something which may be bad news for Erik ten Hag and Manchester United.
The Brentford man will have just one year remaining on his contract with the club at the end of the season and looks likely to move on, with it being the last chance that the Bees could get a decent fee for the player. The likes of Arsenal and Chelsea have been credited with an interest, but they’re not the only ones with United also being linked back in February following the takeover by Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Whatever happens, there is expected to be big competition for Toney in the summer, meaning that the player will have a big say over where his future lies. His latest comments, despite being a joke, do hint over where his ambitions could be.

When asked what his perfect end to the season would be, Toney told Sky Sports: “We start winning games, we win every game from now until the end of the season, I’ll score 20 goals, we’ve got nine games left, so we keep nine clean sheets.”
On the summer, he adds: “I’m in the mix for the Euros, and then we win the Euros.” When prompted more Toney says with a smile: “We’ll just hope things fall into place, If Brentford wants to sell me, they make their money, I move to Madrid and it’s all good.”
United will be hoping that ambition doesn’t come true, with them coming up against Brentford and Toney at the end of this month. But there is another reason why the club may not like hearing his ambitions either.
