Harvey Elliott, who also started the match, briefly played in the youth ranks following his 2019 move from Fulham and Klopp was full of praise for all the young players on show against the Ligue 1 outfit.
"It is really nice, they all deserve it, massively," Klopp said. "Luke had a long injury but had a really good year in Scotland last year, there was a lot of interest in the summer but I didn’t blink for a moment, I really think when our U23s are all together they are a super strong side.
"That is important as well and they train with us. The session we had yesterday a proper minus one session in the long period between Premier League and Europa League session, you don’t get that somewhere of this quality. So it is really important the boys go through that as well.
"I wouldn’t say Luke is top top top shape because of the injury and a little setback but we 100% believe in him and trust him and believe in him and I wanted to show
