We are now well over the midway point in the 2024 January transfer window and so far for Chelsea, it has been a quiet one. In fact, it has been a slow period for all of the Premier League clubs with the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) clearly having an impact on expenditure.
But with a club like Chelsea – particularly because of what they have done in the previous three transfer windows – you can never discount them from producing something remarkable. The Blues are actively looking around the transfer market to see if anything can be done between now and deadline day on February 1.
A centre-forward is one of the priorities for the club. Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen are long-term targets but both are seen as unattainable this month so any move for either of the strikers is more likely to occur in the summer transfer window.
A short-term option, however, is an option for Todd Boehly. A rumour that refuses to go away is Karim Benzema moving to Stamford Bridge. The 36-year-old is reported to be unhappy in Saudi Arabia after making the move to Al-Ittihad last summer.
Benzema's wages are nothing short of astronomical, so you would assume any move for the striker would be on a temporary basis with Chelsea not wanting to cover his salary. A six-month loan could prove to be a shrewd piece of business.
The club are also scouring the market for another central defender. football.london understands Ousmane Diomande from Sporting CP is a real option although the Portuguese club will only sell him this month should someone pay his £69million release clause.
