The FAI will have a permanent manager of the senior Republic of Ireland team in place next month once their target is clear of his current contractual obligations, the association's Director of Football Marc Canham said today.
Canham added that the recruitment process is "near its end point."
That statement by Canham appears to rule out the prospect of caretaker boss John O'Shea landing the position on a long-term basis and may see former international Lee Carsley, who is due to lead England's U21 side in two Euro qualifiers this month, ushered in as Stephen Kenny's successor.
John O'Shea, appointed last week as interim manager for the two friendlies at home to Belgium and Switzerland later this month, was presented to the media at a press conference at the Aviva Stadium this afternoon, an event moved forward from last Friday where the original press event was postponed due to weather conditions.

Canham, who is overseeing the recruitment process, refused to say if O’Shea was definitely not in contention long-term but his claim that the current employment status of their main target is a key factor in the delay in his unveiling.
"The process of the appointment of a permanent new head coach is very close to the end, near its end point and we look forward to announcing that new head coach in early April," Canham said.
