Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders on shortlist to become next Ajax head coach
Pep Lijnders could be on course for a reunion with former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson after it emerged Ajax want the departing Reds assistant manager as their new coach.
Lijnders will leave Anfield this summer as part of an overhaul of the coaching staff, with fellow assistant manager Peter Krawietz, boss Jurgen Klopp and elite development coach Vitor Matos also exiting.
The Dutchman has already made clear he wants his next job to be in management and has hinted he will be joined by Matos as his assistant.

And Ajax have placed Lijnders on their shortlist to become their head coach next season, with interim boss John van't Schip having replaced the sacked Maurice Steijn in October following a poor start to the campaign.
Should he return to his homeland, Lijnders would once again be working with Henderson, who moved to Ajax in January after an ill-fated spell in Saudi Arabia following his surprise departure from Liverpool last summer.
Lijnders first joined Liverpool in 2014, first as an Academy coach and then as first-team development coach. His one previous spell as a manager at Dutch side NEC Nijmegen lasted just five months before he left in May 2018, after which he returned to Klopp's coaching staff ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.
