Mark Clattenburg brutally trolled for 'interesting' Paul Tierney request after Liverpool winner

BBC pundit Garth Crooks has criticised Mark Clattenburg following Liverpool's controversial 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest.

Darwin Nunez netted a 99th-minute winner for the Premier League leaders on Saturday to send the travelling supporters into rapture. But the home faithful were left angry after referee Paul Tierney stopped play for an apparent head injury to Ibrahima Konate.

Despite Forest being in possession near the Liverpool penalty area, Tierney restarted play by dropping the ball to visiting goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, who then started the move that led to the winning goal. After the game, Clattenburg, now an advisor for Forest, said: "We’ll be speaking with the PGMOL and the Premier League and we’ll discuss the correct course of action in the near future."

Clattenburg, who said Tierney had denied him access to the referee’s room, added: "The owner’s quite upset because he has invested a lot of money in the football club and he wants to see results, he feels that another decision has gone against the club and quite rightly he’s upset.

"I think everyone is and sad that they have lost in this way and hopefully their luck will change in the future."

But Crooks wasn't happy with that. "The referee made a mistake, however once the ball was back in play it was incumbent on Forest to defend their goal regardless of the referee's decision," said the former Tottenham Hotspur striker when picking his Team of the Week for the BBC.
