Mauricio Pochettino takes drastic measures to complete Romelu Lukaku's Chelsea transfer exit

Chelsea transfer news: Romelu Lukaku is yet to secure a move away from Chelsea, despite being available to leave this summer.

The Belgian international has struggled to live up to the large transfer price paid by the Blues to secure his return to Stamford Bridge in 2021. The west London club, fresh off their success in the Champions League with Thomas Tuchel, turned to the striker market to bolstering their goal scoring ranks.

Just under £100million was spent on Lukaku, who was viewed as one of the best finishers in world football at the time, and the final piece of Tuchel's puzzle. The forward got off to a decent start, scoring a few goals, including a dominating performance away at Arsenal.

However, a bout of Covid followed injury and a spell on the sidelines, where an interview with Sky Italia aired in which Lukaku dropped several bombshells. One of which was his desire to return to Inter Milan in his peak and another was the struggles he found under his then-head coach.

The second half of the season saw disappointment before the forward was handed his wish in the following summer with a return to Inter Milan on loan. It took him a while to get up to speed, but the loan ended with a Champions League final that the Nerazzurri narrowly missed out on to Manchester City.

Since then, Lukaku has been back at Chelsea, with a move back to Inter unlikely at this stage while talks continue to swirl over a controversial move to Juventus. Links to Saudi Arabia have been played down, but with just days left to secure an exit, there will be concerns over the future of the 30-year-old while he's still on the payroll at Stamford Bridge.
