Newcastle have agreed a £38million fee for Leicester winger Harvey Barnes as Eddie Howe continues to bring in attacking reinforcements.
Mail Sport previously revealed at the start of July that the Magpies had reignited their interest in Barnes and the player is now set for a Premier League return.
Leicester are selling off a plethora of star players after their relegation to the Championship with Barnes following James Maddison out the exit door and Kelechi Iheanacho set to soon follow.
The 25-year-old will fill the gap left by Allan Saint Maximin who is destined for a move to Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli.
Barnes will become Newcastle's second big-name capture of the summer transfer window following the arrival of Sandro Tonali who arrived for £52m from AC Milan.
The Englishman scored 13 goals in a struggling Leicester side last season and wanted to return to the Premier League following the Foxes' relegation.
Personal terms aren't expected to be an issue and Barnes will join fellow English attack Anthony Gordon in the north east ahead of the club's involvement in Champions League football next season.
Barnes will add attacking potency to Newcastle's attack and is expected to link-up with his new team-mates on their tour of America once he has passed a medical.
His arrival at St James' Park spells the end for Saint Maximin who is set to move to the riches of the Saudi Pro League as negotiations continue with Al Ahli.
Further talks were held between the two clubs on Tuesday evening as they attempt to thrash out a deal that suits the ambitions of all involved parties.
Howe revealed after Newcastle's pre-season victory over Rangers in Scotland on Tuesday that he didn't want to sell the Frenchman but had been left with no choice.
