I’ve gone back and forth with my team so many times in the past hour let alone the past week ahead of this game but recent form has played into it whilst also taking into account the tactical needs of the fixture. Rumours have it Thomas Tuchel might experiment on the Bayern Munich left to help cope with Alphonso Davies’ absence but also the obvious Gunners threat.
David Raya continues in goal but the back four is tweaked. William Saliba, Ben White and Gabriel Magalhaes remain in their usual positions but Takehiro Tomiyasu is the choice at left-back with the sole task of stopping Leroy Sane. With Joshua Kimmich he isn’t the type to bomb forward and overlap as much and therefore the Japanese international’s job should be relatively linear.
Into midfield and Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard are joined by Thomas Partey. His small showings have impressed me and with a weekend of rest hopefully is fully fit to start and play plenty of those line-breaking passes we have been missing without the Ghanaian in the side.
Up top is where I’ve had the biggest internal debate but Gabriel Martinelli’s form and how Kimmich locked him down have meant he’s on the bench here. Leandro Trossard and Kai Havertz have been tussling for the central role but the latter is perhaps better suited
