Mauricio Pochettino revealed on Saturday that he and a few members of the Chelsea board were due to meet in the next 24 hours to discuss the club's plans this month. The Blues are looking at bringing in a couple of new players over the January transfer window to help them with the remainder of the season.
«At the moment we are not talking about bringing players,» the Chelsea head coach said after Saturday's win. «I saw Behdad [Eghbali] here in the manager's room with Paul [Winstanley] and Laurence [Stewart].
»I think tomorrow [Sunday] we are going to have a chat because we will be in the training ground. We didn't talk about names or talk about position, we didn't talk to bring players. For now, we are focusing on players like Andrey Santos to see what we are going to do."
Chelsea have won their last three matches in all competitions – which has helped paper over the cracks somewhat at Stamford Bridge. Pochettino, though, has not been fooled by this and the Argentine knows there are areas of the squad that need improving this month if possible.
Highest on Chelsea's agenda in January is signing a new striker. With Nicolas Jackson away at the Africa Cup of Nations – and he could be for over a month should Senegal go all the way once again in the competition – Pochettino is very short on options in that position.
Armando Broja is one option, and although he scored an important goal in the win against Preston North End at the weekend, the club would rather not put all of the pressure on him just yet. Christopher Nkunku has suffered a setback after recently returning from a long-term injury problem, leaving Pochettino extremely short in the central striker position.
