Roberto De Zerbi can hand Arsenal Premier League title boost with perfect Liverpool audition
Liverpool will be on the lookout for a new manager in the summer after Jurgen Klopp revealed he would be stepping down at the end of the season. All eyes had been on former player Xabi Alonso, who has been impressing in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen.
Leverkusen are the runaway leaders, 10 points clear of Bayern Munich with eight games to go. They look set to end Bayern's incredible run of 11 straight title wins with their brand of attacking football.
However, it looks as though Alonso is set to stay in Germany, with the Spaniard ready to take Leverkusen into the Champions League after winning the Bundesliga title — providing there is not a calamitous collapse between now and the end of the season.
Liverpool will, of course, have been looking around at managerial talent to replace Klopp, and they may have to look towards a second or even third choice if Alonso is, as expected, going to stay at Leverkusen. One name that has also been heavily linked with the Anfield hotseat is Roberto De Zerbi.
The Brighton boss has been lauded during his time in charge of the Seagulls for his open, attacking football. he took the Seagulls to their best ever top-flight finish last season, guiding them into the Europa League for the first time in their history.
They were knocked out by Roma at the last-16 stage, but they are once again on the fringes of the European places again this season. And, De Zerbi will get something of a Liverpool audition this weekend.
