Rooney wades in on who he would prefer in his team out of Haaland and Harry Kane

Wayne Rooney has weighed in on the debate between Harry Kane and Erling Haaland, and revealed who he would rather have on his team.

The Man United legend was part of Sky Sports' punditry team for their 2-0 victory over Everton on Saturday.

Rooney was asked to discuss a variety of topics, including his preferred starting XI for England at Euro 2024 this summer.

He was also asked who he would rather have leading the line for his side, Haaland or Kane - the two most inform strikers in world football.

Discussing Kane's impressive form at Bayern Munich, where he has scored 27 goals in 24 Bundesliga matches, Rooney admitted that he expected him to hit the heights he had.

He said: 'I didn’t expect anything less. He is incredible. The goals he scores, the chances he creates, he is the ultimate professional.

'We didn’t take into account Bayern not winning a trophy, that would be crazy, but wherever he plays he will score goals.'

Rooney finalised by admitting that he would rather have Haaland in his team due to being younger than Kane, but that there is little in the decision.

'I would take Haaland over Kane because of his age but if they were the same age it’s a flip of a coin,' Rooney concluded.

Haaland has netted 18 goals in 22 Premier League matches this season and is showing no sign of slowing down as Pep Guardiola's side continue their push to retain the Premier League this season.
