Sean Dyche admits that Dele Alli has “got a long way to go” to pull on an Everton shirt again.
Dele has not played for Everton for 18 months since he came on as a substitute in their 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa on August 13, 2022. The 27-year-old arrived at Goodison Park on the same day that Frank Lampard was appointed manager and despite joining on an initial free transfer, he is now seven appearances shy of a first £10million payment being made to his previous club Tottenham Hotspur.

An interview with Gary Neville then came out last July, while Everton were at their pre-season training camp by the shores of Lake Geneva, in which the England international spoke frankly about a number of off-the-field issues he suffered throughout both his childhood and adult life.
Dele – who was spotted watching his old team Spurs beat Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday on the same day that Everton lost 2-0 at Manchester City – is now recovering from groin surgery he underwent in late January. Asked by Sky Sports if he thought Everton fans would see the player whose current contract expires this summer, again, manager Sean Dyche said: “We’ll see.
