Son Heung-min has laid out a clear Tottenham challenge to Richarlison following his fourth goal in three Premier League games. The Brazil international headed into the clash against his former club Everton after scoring a brace against Newcastle with another goal arriving in the narrow victory over Nottingham Forest.
Following the departure of Harry Kane, the goal-scoring responsibilities were placed on the shoulders of Richarlison, however Postecoglou chose to deploy Son in the central striker role after a number of mixed displays by Richarlison down the middle.
Starts were still arriving for the 26-year-old in the absence of Brennan Johnson out wide but he was often withdrawn early and it was then revealed he had been dealing with an injury that needed minor surgery to fix. Following cameo appearances against Manchester City and West Ham, Richarlison started a game for the first time in over a month when Newcastle came to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The goals have been flowing since his double in that game with Son praising his team-mates recent displays while also throwing down the gauntlet for him to score even more. “Everybody is very happy for him and very pleased,” Son said after the Everton victory. “Richi has to know that he has to score more goals when you play for Spurs. He needs to score more than 15 goals to be striker. Richi is the type of guy who will want to score more and I hope he continues to so he can help the team.”
