Despite the euphoria of Arsenal’s win over Manchester United, the game was undermined slightly by the massive blow of losing Thomas Partey to a groin injury. After the game,Mikel Arteta was far from positive about the situation and even provided a worse prognosis than the Ghanaian FA’s suggestion of a “couple of weeks” away from the action.
“I don’t know, unfortunately, he got an injury in training and it doesn’t look good, we need some more tests, we believe he’s going to be out for weeks,” he said. “We think it’s a groin but can be something in between.”
However, Sami Mokbel has now suggested that Partey is expected to miss as many as six weeks of football with this issue. This will see him miss a total of seven matches, although the timing of the international break has helped potentially curb further missed games.
The seven games include some massive Premier League games but potentially only two Champions League games, avoiding, should he return by October 16 (as the reported timeline suggests he will), the toughest clash away in Seville.
After the international break the Gunners travel to Everton in a fixture that Arsenal have struggled to pick up victories. Everton have not been beaten by the Gunners at Goodison Park since a 5-2 defeat in 2017, nearly six years ago.
Next up will be yet another missed North London Derby for Partey who was famously pushed back onto the field by Mikel Arteta when injured. Arsenal’s record in the home clash with Spurs is good but the Ghanaian will be sorely missed here.
