Paul Scholes believes Manchester United are in big trouble amid their four-game goalless streak, compounded by Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to West Ham.
The visitors struggled to create clear-cut chances with Alejandro Garnacho missing their best opportunity when facing up Alphonse Areola in the first half. United’s attackers have netted a combined four league goals all season, with Rasmus Hojlund yet to get off the mark in the top flight.
United had 66 per cent possession and fired in 11 shots at the London Stadium, albeit just three were on target. The club’s goalless run is their worst since November 1992 and their 13th defeat of the season is their most before Christmas since 1930.

And Scholes said he worries for United’s attack going forward given the miserable form they have shown so far this campaign. “I felt today they were never going to score,” he told TNT Sports after the game at West Ham. Even when they were in control, I felt confidence was that bad and a lack of patience and a bit of cleverness to score, it was never there. United have no confidence and they are shot to pieces, they can’t say the word goal never mind score one.
“They are in big trouble and at some point it is going to have to change. I think the players have to have a long hard look at themselves. You’re an attacking team, you are Manchester United, it’s all about scoring goals.”
