UEFA chief resigns amid Man City 'guilty' FFP verdict with Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham wait

UEFA's technical director Zvonimir Boban has quit his role in protest after president Aleksander Ceferin signalled his intention to remain in charge for a fourth term. The decision comes just days after an interview with Ceferin was released in which he stated that he firmly believed Manchester City had been guilty of historic financial breaches.

Ceferin claimed that UEFA were correct to charge City with breaking Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules despite the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) overturning the ban that was handed out to them in 2018. “We know we were right," he said in an interview with the Telegraph.

«We wouldn’t decide if we didn’t think we were right.” Ceferin added: “As a trial lawyer for 25 years, I know that, sometimes, you win a case that you are sure you will lose. And, sometimes, you lose a case when you’re sure. You just simply have to respect in a serious democracy the decision of the court.

“I don’t want to speak about the case in England. But I trust that the decision of our independent body was correct. I didn’t enter into this decision.”

Ceferin was elected as president in 2016 and was part of the team that accused City of breaking the rules. His comments now come at a time whereby they are once more under the microscope but this team from the Premier League.

City have 115 charges against them currently due to alleged breaches of financial rules over a 10-year period. With Everton punished for just a solitary charge late last year and Nottingham Forest's case now being put to an independent commission too, the attention being paid to a club's accounts has never been greater.
