A former Premier League star has ripped in to Jordan Henderson after his poor start to life at Ajax.
Henderson has been appointed captain but has failed to win in any of his four games so far.
He joined Ajax in January on the back of a miserable spell of mid-table obscurity in Saudi Arabia, playing under Steven Gerrard at Al-Ettiffaq.
Former Ajax and Tottenham star Rafael van der Vaart has issued a scathing criticism of his football, claiming that 'nobody' will be happy with him.
'Ajax have brought in players with zero quality. The club will now have to see out the rest of the season,' he said on Dutch TV.
'They have brought in Jordan Henderson. All he does is to play a little pass out wide, or a little pass back.
'But nobody will be happy with that.
'You'll see on Thursday that they will get through their Conference League tie against Bodo/Glimt with all the luck in the world.
'Afterwards it's best for them to get knocked out, and to make a fresh start next season.
'As an Ajax man my heart bleeds. I don't know what I can say about them any more.'
It has been a deflating season for Ajax, who are fifth in the Eredivisie, 26 points behind PSV.
They drew last week's Europa Conference League play-off game against Bodo/Glimt 2-2, but only salvaged a draw thanks to two goals in stoppage time.
On Thursday they face a trip to Norway and it is some comedown for a side who reached the Champions League semi-finals in 2019.
Blame cannot rest much on Henderson, who only joined partway through a dismal campaign.
Ajax have a swathe of young players who have not lived up to the standards set by their predecessors, who have gone on to play for some top sides in Europe.
