Sami Hyypia has defended Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk describing him as "one of the best in the business".
The Holland defender has come in for criticism in recent seasons after his performance levels have dipped, coinciding with a slump in results at Anfield.
Van Dijk has shown signs of being back to his best, this season, including on Saturday when he turned out a captain's display during their 2-0 Merseyside derby win over Everton.
A lot of the disapproval surrounding the centre-back's performances came in light of the serious knee injury in 2020 that curtailed his involvement in Liverpool's defence of the Premier League.

This season, the 32-year-old joins the likes of Hyypia to take control of the armband from the heart of the back four. Van Dijk was named as Jordan Henderson's successor, following his controversial move to Saudi Pro League side, Al Ettifaq.
Despite the critics, the Liverpool defender has showcased his importance at club and international level where he has became an indispensable player for both Holland and at Anfield.
The iconic Finnish defender has moved to defend Van Dijk following the spotlight thrust on the former Celtic and Southampton stopper.
"He is one of the best in the business in the world," Hyypia said.
"I think he has raised the standard with everyone expecting him to play at that level every time and that is very difficult.
"But he is doing well, he is a big part of our team and a big leader of the team so I think we all need to be patient and his best is coming.
