Arsenal returned to Champions League action with another pulsating clash with Bayern Munich at the Emirates Stadium.
Bukayo Saka gave the Gunners the lead early in the first half, however he saw his strike overturned by a Serge Gnabry effort and a Harry Kane penalty. Leandro Trossard brought the home side level with a beautiful finish and the game ended in late drama as Saka appealed for a last-minute penalty.
Although the television cameras were on the players providing insight to those at home, football.london had an even better view. Inside the ground, we spotted some things which the cameras certainly wouldn’t have spotted.
It was a full house inside the Emirates Stadium with the Bayern Munich supporters not allowed inside the ground after a ban following the use of fireworks in a previous game. The ground was therefore packed full of solely Arsenal fans and that meant very little in the way of noise regarding anything Bayern.
However, the Arsenal stadium DJ has made something of a name for himself with WWE intros at half-time and brilliant song choices at full-time. As always with matches, he’s in charge of reading out the away side and sometimes the travelling fans cheer when their player’s names are read out but this time with none inside the Emirates it would have been silent.
I say ‘would have’ because he deliberately allowed a pause between two specific names. Both Harry Kane and Eric Dier received the jeers you’d expect of former Tottenham Hotspur players and the gap left after their names were read out was subtle perfection.
