Tottenham's winless run is finally over after a thumping 4-1 victory over Newcastle United on Sunday evening. Last tasting victory away at Crystal Palace at the end of October, it has been an incredibly tough six weeks for Ange Postecoglou and his players with a host of injuries wreaking havoc on the Tottenham squad.
Despite missing some key players in that period, Spurs have still performed well in games but just not done enough to get over the line. Things all came together against Newcastle, though, and the Lilywhites could have scored more than the four they did after playing some excellent football.
Opening the scoring through Destiny Udogie's first Tottenham goal in the 26th minute as he tapped home from close range, Richarlison, who was starting in his favoured striker role, doubled their advantage seven minutes before half-time. Enduring such a frustrating start to his time at the club as he struggled to hit top form with injury and a lack of regular match rhythm impacting him, his strike could potentially be a turning point in his season and possibly his Tottenham career.
Looking more like his old self following his recent surgery as he made things happen in the final third and demonstrated his defensive qualities, the ex-Everton man grabbed his second of the game on the hour mark as he slid the ball past Martin Dubravka in the Newcastle goal after taking down Pedro Porro's pass. Wheeling off in celebration as he slid on his knees by the corner flag, Richarlison was joined by a handful of his teammates including Son Heung-min.
