Harry Kane's strong bond with Jose Mourinho suggests he would likely welcome the former Tottenham boss as the new manager of Bayern Munich.
The German champions currently trail Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen by five points after Xabi Alonso's side beat them 3-0 on Saturday and with expectations always high, the Bavarian club are rumoured to be considering a change in management. Mourinho, 61, is reportedly interested in the position and has started learning German in preparation.
Kane expressed his disappointment with Bayern's performance against Leverkusen, criticising his teammates for their mistakes. The England captain moved to Bayern in search of trophies after a dry spell at Spurs but is facing similar frustrations. Mourinho coached Kane at Tottenham from November 2019 to April 2021. Despite not winning any trophies, Kane thrived under Mourinho's management, scoring 45 goals and providing 18 assists in 62 matches.
Kane had a fantastic partnership with Son Heung-min and won the Premier League's Golden Boot in 2020/21 with 23 goals. In an interview with The Overlap in May 2021, after Mourinho had left, he shared how well they got along.
«I think with Jose I had a great relationship with him, we got on from minute one,» he said. «I think we understood each other, we had a similar mentality and how we saw stuff on the pitch, off the pitch and mentality in training so we kind of built that relationship. Again, it's a shame we couldn't go on to win things but I've been lucky enough to work with Mauricio [Pochettino] and Jose, they're two incredible managers that's only helped me in my career for sure.»
